Introduction

Practical 4 introduced the principle: match the instructional activity to the domain of learning (cognitive/psychomotor/affective) and named a handful of activity types without detailing them, promising this practical would build the full toolkit. This is that toolkit — every method named in your syllabus, with its procedure, best-fit domain, strengths, and limitations, so that by the end you can justify why a specific method was chosen for a specific objective, not just describe what it is.

Extension professionals are often judged less on subject knowledge and more on their ability to actually change practice on the ground — and that transfer happens through the method, not the content alone. Knowing ten methods by name is not the same as knowing which one converts a specific objective into real behaviour change.

ICAR's Front-Line Demonstration programme is the large-scale institutional application of Result Demonstration — scientists directly supervise demonstration plots on farmers' fields under real management conditions, generating locally credible evidence for new technology adoption. KVKs use Method Demonstration extensively in hands-on training (e.g., seed treatment, vermicompost preparation), while symposium and seminar formats are typically reserved for scientist/officer-level events rather than farmer audiences.

Q1. Can multiple methods be combined within a single session?

Yes — this is standard practice and connects directly to Practical 4's session design: a session might open with a short lecture (Remember/Understand), move into a demonstration (Psychomotor), and close with discussion (Analyse). Combining methods within Gagn├й's Nine Events structure is more effective than relying on any single method for an entire session.

Q2. Why does T-Group need a trained trainer specifically, unlike most other methods?

Because the method deliberately works with real, unscripted interpersonal dynamics as they emerge in the room — without skilled handling, this can surface genuine conflict or discomfort that an untrained facilitator cannot safely manage, unlike a structured method like lecture or demonstration where the content is pre-planned.

Q3. Is lecture always the "worst" method since it's one-way?

Not at all — for Remember/Understand-level objectives with a large audience and limited time, lecture remains efficient and appropriate. The issue is using lecture alone for objectives that actually require Apply/Analyse/Psychomotor-level learning, where it cannot do the job on its own.

Q4. What's the practical difference between a symposium and a panel discussion?

In a symposium, experts present sequentially with limited interaction between them. In a panel discussion, the experts actively discuss and respond to each other (and often the audience) in real time — panel discussion is more two-way and dynamic than symposium.

Q5. How would a Front-Line Demonstration be evaluated, given Practical 9's tools?

An FLD is a Result Demonstration, so a knowledge pre-test/post-test isn't the primary tool — the "evaluation" is usually a yield/performance comparison between the demonstration plot and the local check, closer to Kirkpatrick Level 4 (Results, Practical 3) than Level 2 (Learning).
